Salem Arts Association September Exhibit: "Gears, Grit and Gaslights!"

The theme for the Salem Arts Association's September exhibit is "Gears, Grit and Gaslights".

Opening Reception is Saturday, September 13th from 4-6 PM.

Hark back to an earlier time, or leap forward to a re-envisioned future: Steampunk, Neo- Victorian, Retro Future, or Post-Apocalyptic Nostalgia. Celebrate an era that promised air ships and time travel. Remember a past of steam engines, industry and innovation.

The juror for this show will be Victorian Lady Lisa. She is known both locally and nationally for her Cape Ann Cable TV show, "All things Victorian" and her book, "International Steampunk Fashions." She is currently writing a second book on Victorian/Edwardian fashion. A third book, with Steampunk designer/model phenom Kato, is also being planned. Lady Lisa also has the honor of being a portrait model for artists in PA and recently for famed impressionist, Jude Abbe. She is a member of one of the Rockport Art Association. Lovely seaside Rockport, MA is where Lady Lisa resides.

History Alive! Performs on Artists' Row

History Alive!
Historical Theatre/Staged Reading

History Alive! is committed to the production of new theatre based on true stories from the past. Emphasis is given to surprising ways of engaging with history, so that actors and audience together might broaden their understanding of the present, gaining a fresh sense of purpose within their own era. History Alive!’s latest piece “Travail” begins in ancient Greece and quickly cuts to 17th century New England, jumping back and forth through time up to the early 1970′s. Many women report that birthing in the early twenty-first century feels like not only a personal and family event, but a political one. This is especially true, they say, in the Boston area. This play explores the question of how birthing in New England may have evolved to become such an experience.
