Friday, September 19th, 7-9 PM: Artist's Reception with Stacy and John Stobart

The gallery is proud to be hosting the debut of The Stobart Foundation recipients exhibits with Stacy Kamin | Light and Movement. Stacy was awarded a Stobart Foundation Grant in 2012 based on her talent and her proposal to study and paint in Paris, Amsterdam and Arizona. Many of the more than thirty paintings and forty sketches that are the result of her journey will be part of the exhibit at the gallery.

Stacy, is an extremely talented artist who exemplifies The Stobart Foundation's philosophy that traditional methods and painting from nature are a vital legacy to the art world. She lives in California and is a member of the California Art Club and Oil Painters of America. A traditional realist painter Stacy shares her talents by giving classes and workshops on traditional realism. In her paintings, she uses thick broad strokes to create her expressive style. The underlying movement of each work is mysterious and exciting -- her images are fresh, full of light and instantly appealing.

“I realize I am lucky enough to be alive at this time, when Realism seems to be experiencing a renaissance. Art history has very few women realist role models… So when I contemplate making my way as an artist in a field dominated by men, and at a time when Realism is virtually ignored by the art critics and institutions, it makes me even more determined to achieve my full potential as a realist artist.” - Stacy Kamin

Jane Chapin Exhibit: "Land of the Free," at the Kensington-Stobart Gallery

For the benefit of the Special Operations Warrior Foundation.

Paintings by nationally recognized artist, Jane Chapin will be on view in the gallery.  Jane and the Kensington-Stobart Gallery will donate a portion of the proceeds from the sale of her paintings to the Special Operations Warrior Foundation (SOWF).

Originally from northeastern Pennsylvania, Jane took her first painting class at the age of ten. She helped put herself through art school by doing portraits, establishing an early skill at the human figure. Jane mainly paints landscapes using a traditional approach, believing that plein air painting is an essential part of her development as a painter.

To facilitate her lifelong love of travel, Jane purchased a motor home in 2007 and began a painting journey across America.  Jane writes, "The more ground I covered, the more I realized how blessed my life was, and how lucky I was to be born into this time and place.  The realization of my freedom on the road reawakened me to the debt I owe our veterans, past and present."  While painting, Jane felt the farms and towns on this trip were a gift from, and a tribute to American veterans, our country's heroes.  Jane documented her trip and her artwork in her book, 'Land of the Free' A Painter's Chronicle of Our 50 States & Their Heroes, and donates 100% of the proceeds of the book to the SOWF.
