Kevin Kusiolek at Howling Wolf

Artist Statement:

My current work consists of my observations from life, usually urban areas, and recording them onto a surface. My cityscapes are void of people; creating my own unique world, while attempting to relay a sense of motion. The work becomes a personal response to nature and the environment in which I live and breath. I have a vague idea of how I want my paintings to turn out, but as soon as paint touches canvas, everything changes. Decisions are made instinctively and boldly. Each brushstroke is intentional, attempting to make the perfect mark every time. Since I am only human, I hardly ever make the perfect mark the first attempt, but I allow these mistakes to show through subsequent layers. Splashes, drips, and gestural marks coat the surface. My process gives the viewer a more personal and direct relationship into the creation of the work. Each Fragment and stroke of paint combine to recreate my depiction of the world I inhabit.

Ben Stebbings and Maggie Armstrong Gallery at Howling Wolf

Ben Stebbings and Maggie Armstrong Gallery at Howling Wolf

Benjamin Stebbings has been showing, teaching and performing live art for over ten years.  His recent works of art feature vibrant scenes made up of contrasting colors.  Benjamin approaches his paintings more like a sculptor. With an organic process he is able to capture likeness, mood and feeling without loosing the spontaneity of the work.

Maggie Armstrong is a bonafide Salem resident; born and raised here, she has successfully made a name for herself with her artwork. Maggie began painting just a few short years ago and in that time has tapped into a unique style that is ever evolving with each show she exhibits. You know an Armstrong piece when you see it; she is in a class of her own. Using mostly acrylic and sharpies, Maggie layers shapes, objects, and dream-like images onto canvas, cardboard, or skateboards to create a piece that appears different every time you blink. Without any formal art education, Maggie has risen as a true natural and is quickly becoming a powerful female artist. With so much character and a depth of talent this woman is one to watch.  Several of her pieces are currently on exhibit at The Witch Dr. Glass Blowing Studio and Art Gallery.

CS ROSE at Howling Wolf

CS Rose uses a free flowing intuitive technique that seems to change with every new piece. She usually refrain from attaching herself to any one specific idea or subject. Mary Shea on Exhibit at Howling Wolf

The Howling Wolf Taqueria will be hosting Mary Shea's latest photography exhibition, Immersion, from August 9 through September 6, 2014! The exhibition is free and open during business hours.

With all her life spent living in close proximity to salt water, it is not surprising that water and light are the focus of the latest exhibition from Mary Shea. After taking a trip to North Carolina and experiencing rushing rivers for the first time, this body of work was
produced. Immersion features 16 photographs; some of which are clearly representational while others play with perception and abstraction.

Mary communicates the beauty and mystery of nature using a variety of photographic mediums, including medium format and digital photography. Through her explorations, she continues to capture moments that inspire contemplation within the photographic frame.

Mary Shea is an artist who lives and works in Salem, MA. She studied Photography at Massachusetts College of Art. Mary has spent time cultivating strong relationships with the distinctive habitats she resides in, including Martha’s Vineyard, where she was raised. Mary gravitates to nature as a subject to reference. For more information, please visit www.marysheaphoto.com or find her on Facebook at Mary Shea Photography
