Holiday Window Contest Winners Announced
The holidays are here, and Salem is dressed for the season with trees, wreaths, and ribbons. To top it off, over 40 downtown businesses have decorated their windows especially for the holidays. Judges nominated by Salem Main Streets made the rounds to vote on the best windows, and the public got an opportunity to vote on their favorites.
“We had more downtown businesses participating than ever before, and they sure gave our judges a run for their money,” said Kylie Sullivan, Salem Main Streets Manager. “There are so many great windows, from the beautiful holiday mural at Mud Puddle Toys, to the “Frozen” / frozen yogurt themed windows at Orange Leaf, to the yeti at Gulu-Gulu Café. We awarded more winners than ever before, and still feel like we’re leaving some of our favorites out.”
In addition to recognizing Best Overall, Most Traditional, Most Original, and Most Whimsical, an “X Factor” award (for a window that “defies categorization”) was given to The Coven’s Cottage for their window, which not only showcased their own products, but also highlighted products from neighboring businesses.
The return of the public vote was a wild success, with almost 3,000 online and in-person total votes! Delande Lighting won with their “Frozen” inspired window (a big theme this year), with Opus in a very respectable second place, and Edward John Home Décor not far behind in third.
Though the businesses are not required to keep their windows decorated now that the competition is over, most will likely stay up through the holidays, so there’s still time to enjoy them!
