SALEM, MA -- The Peabody Essex Museum (PEM) is proud to announce the schedule for this year’s PEM/PM after-hours parties. Guests are invited to dance the night away, sip delicious cocktails and imported beer, flex their creative muscles with art workshops, enjoy live music and meet new friends. The entire museum is open late during PEM/PM, which takes place the third Thursday of every month from 6 to 9 pm. Learn more at pem.org/pempm.

Thursday, January 21: Agridulce -- Warm your spirit with an evening celebrating Alchemy of the Soul: Maria Magdalena Campos-Pons. Come watch a special performance piece by Maria Magdalena Campos-Pons and enjoy different types of rum and special cocktails as well as Cuban-inspired small plates to celebrate the artist’s cultural background. Get an in-depth look behind the sugar and rum industry and Salem’s role in the trade process.
Thursday, February 18: Activate -- Dance the night away as the internationally acclaimed A Tribe Called Red headlines the party with its electronic pow-wow pop. Don’t forget to strike a pose at the streetwear fashion show before making art of your own inspired by The Soft Museum. And be sure to explore our exhibition Native Fashion Now.
Thursday, March 17: Artopia: What’s Your Creative Story? -- Are you ready to tell your story? Join PEM, Salem Arts Festival and Creative Salem for a night celebrating the arts and the individual creative stories for the artist hidden inside everyone! Bring a personal item that represents you and your tale to be put on display in the museum, enjoy several art workshops and see an exhibition by Beverly High School art students.
Thursday, April 21: Nexus -- Cultures collide during this celebration of international trade. Enjoy Asian and Dutch beers to give cheers to the exhibition Asia in Amsterdam: The Culture of Luxury in the Golden Age. Listen to traditional and electronic music as the two come together in perfect harmony as you learn about the importance of global trade while sampling Asian- and Dutch-inspired cuisine.
Thursday, May 19: Metamorphosis -- Celebrate the emotional and psychological complexities of human beings with a night of dancing and sculpting in honor of Rodin: Transforming Sculpture. Discuss the connection between emotions, energy and the brain with neuroscientists before witnessing unfinished pieces in the PEM collection. Treat your own body with massages and salon-style cocktails.
Thursday, June 16: Jigsaw -- Explore the worlds of puzzle and patterns. Join in a large-scale puzzle hunt, enjoy laser cutting and DIY puzzle workshops, create your own fractals and much more. There’s nothing puzzling about this party!
Thursday, July 21: Summer Breeze -- Head inland to PEM and discover plein-air paintings by area artists while exploring American Impressionist: Childe Hassam and the Isles of Shoals. Taste local seafood, enjoy watercolor painting workshops, listen to live music and be fascinated by a presentation from staff at the Shoals Marine Lab.
Thursday, August 18: End-of-Summer Blues -- Everyone gets the blues toward the end of summer, but PEM is here to help you celebrate! Enjoy local blues bands, lawn games and backyard BBQ food while enjoying a selection of beer. Be a part of the music with instrument making and blue jean art workshops and end the summer with a bash.
Thursday, September 15: Communidad -- Spend the evening with PEM for a celebration in honor of Spanish History Month! Get fired up with a Latin dance party that breaks the traditional mold while enjoying cocktails and music.
Thursday, October 20: Moon Landing -- Neil Armstrong can sit this one out. Come celebrate the moon for a tantalizing night of lunar festivities. Listen in on discussions about the importance of the moon, hear from exhibition artists and interact with minerals found on the moon. From the race to make a base on the moon to cheese and werewolves, this lunar celebration is sure to be out of this world!
Thursday, November 17: Signals -- Pick up your telegraph and dial a friend to tell them about this celebration for the man behind the Morse code. Explore artist and inventor Samuel F.B. Morse’s specialties as you make portraits, discover trends in communication and decode telegrams.
Thursday, December 15: Shoe-volution -- Put one foot in front of the other as you make your way to PEM for a celebration of shoes! Learn cool ways to lace your shoes, design and make your own shoes and see some of the more ridiculous and extreme pairs ever conceived by fashion
PEM’s after-hours parties -- with music and dance performances, food tastings, lectures and art-making stations -- kicked off in the Asian Garden the summer of 2011 and have grown in popularity ever since. On the third Thursday of each month, activities have included a celebration of romance in PEM’s Chinese House, dancing with Nick Cave’s Soundsuits and lessons in Indian cooking techniques.
