A Place for All People, a special poster exhibit based on the new National Museum of African American History and Culture’s inaugural exhibitions exploring African American history, culture and community will be on view in The House of the Seven Gables Visitors Center from October 1 – December 2, 2016 during regular operating hours.
The House of the Seven Gables is proud to partner with the National Museum of African American History and Culture to celebrate the opening of the nineteenth museum of the Smithsonian Institution.
In 2017, The Gables will explore the history of labor at the site. Indentured servants, slaves, paid workers, and the men and women who lived in the Turner-Ingersoll Mansion have made the site what it is. In April, The Gables will debut an exhibition looking at the impact of labor over four centuries as well as an annual lecture and Community Conversation series.

It is recognized as one of New England’s most significant and thoroughly documented historic houses and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Filled with original furnishings, the Ropes Mansion contains superb examples of 18th- and 19th-century furniture, ceramics and glass, silver, kitchenwares, textiles and personal objects.

The Kindness Rock Project @ Artists' Row - SATURDAY

Salem, MA- Mayor Kim Driscoll, City of Salem Public Space Initiative and the Artisans at Artists’ Row announce a “The Kindness Rocks Project” event to take place on October 1st from 1-4pm at Artists’ Row, 24 New Derby Street.The Kindness Rocks Project was created to spread inspiration and motivation for unsuspecting recipients through random inspirational rocks placed in easy to access locations. It started as a hobby of one and has now turned into a movement due to the energy of many. And today this project has grown into inspiration gardens placed around Cape Cod and beyond including Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, Ireland, Thailand, Haiti and England. People started joining The Kindness Rocks Project or starting similar projects in their communities!Join us on October 1st to create a Kindness Rocks Project garden at Artists’ Row. Please bring a rock (or two) to paint and leave in the garden. All supplies will be provided….even rocks! A special thank you to Allison Conboy for her inspiration in bringing this project to Salem. And to the Artists’ Row artisans, Tommy Gagnon, Linda Mullen, Sibel Alpaslan, Karen Scalia and Alexanzdra Nowak for their support of this project. Salem Zombie Walk - SATURDAY
The Salem Zombiewalk has been an annual event for a number of years. This is a great family-friendly event of a genre that incorporates all aspects of life, or rather, undead that takes place in Halloweentown, USA during Halloween Season. Prior to the Zombiewalk, participants gather at Collins Cove park for some field day activities, last minute costume tweaks and alterations, and of course to admire other lovers of the Zombie theme. Pets are welcome, so long as they are crowd friendly and well-behaved. Details are on the official flyer, please look for it on Facebook, and share the event. PEM’s Composer-in-Residence Matthew Aucoin presents two concert performances with the Asia/America New Music Institute (AANMI) this fall.Points of Departure explores geographic and cultural identity through diverse musical performance and engaging conversation.
