Biz Baz, what the heck is that? New music group? Some kind of Steampunk word? For those not in the know, it is a highly popular series of street bazaars mounted by the Salem Chamber of Commerce. But this weekend --- in keeping with the “spirit” of Halloween--- it is called the Haunted Biz Baz (October 4th 10-8pm & 5th 10-6pm, Essex Street Pedestrian Mall and Surrounding Areas).
According to the Chamber “Over the past decade this event has drawn tens of thousands of visitors to the exhibitor locations.”
So, to say that the Biz Baz Street Fair merely showcases more than street musicians and 90 vendors (who sell products that range from handmade jewelry to uniquely Salem gifts), short changes the event.
It flows with a life of its own as shoppers and passers-by mingle, chat and bargain with vendors for a treasure of the day.
Children are definitely not excluded in this give-and-take. More than enough cute & odd things are displayed to catch their eyes. And of course there are also the food options to be found along the walking route. Delights over the previous years have included hot dogs, hot chocolate, fried dough and popcorn.
Salem is very walkable, which lends itself to being a perfect venue for checking out booths, listening to music, watching performers, grabbing a bite to eat and even bumping into a friend you haven't seen in awhile.
Bring a bag; bring cash as not everyone may accept credit/debit cards.
