Antique Automobiles Assembled (in August)

By daseger

From my perspective, early August is not only for Americana but also antique automobiles, or perhaps they are the same thing. What started out as a small neighborhood event–a meeting of vintage automobiles on Chestnut Street sponsored by Historic New England’s Phillips House, accompanied by a makeshift lemonade stand organized by local children–has grown to a large assemblage of both cars and people.

14th Annual Phillips House Car Meet Returns to Historic Chestnut Street

Join Historic New England’s Phillips House and the North Shore Old Car Club for the Fourteenth Annual Car Meet on historic Chestnut Street.  Members of the North Shore Old Car Club will display their vintage and antique vehicles; there will be special tours of the Phillips House and Carriage House, including a close-up look at the two Pierce-Arrows, Model A Ford, and five carriages on display. Jazz music will be provided by the Trent Austin Duo. Light refreshments will be provided as well.

New for 2015 will be a vintage Volkswagen photo booth, sponsored by Creative Salem and Front Street Coffeehouse. Visitors will be welcome to take some groovy pictures with a classic car. The Cannoli Cart will also be in attendance with mini treats for purchase. Proceeds from both of these additions will support historic preservation.

Returning for a fifth year, RFT Insurance of Lynnfield will be sponsoring two award categories for the meet. All visitors will be able to vote for a People’s Choice and there will be a Sponsor’s Choice Award. The awards ceremony will take place at 2:30 p.m.

The meet takes place on Sunday, August 9 from noon – 3:00 p.m. Admission is free. The car meet is open to all participants, though members of the North Shore Old Car Club will receive priority parking near the Phillips House.

Historic New England would like to thank the generous sponsors who have committed to this event. They include Bouchard and Sons, Essex Street Dental Medicine, Restorations by Roy, the Salem Witch Museum, and Spinale Automotive. It’s not too late to sponsor!
